On what would have otherwise been a normal summer Saturday, BeyoncГ© and Jay-Z shocked their fans with the launch of a new, joint album that spills some serious tea on their relationship - and offers up marital advice in the process.
The couple released the nine track "Everything is Love" album on Jay-Z's Tidal streaming service, seemingly providing a final chapter to the musical romance saga fans have been following for years. On BeyoncГ©'s 2016 "Lemonade" she called out Jay for cheating, and in 2017 he responded (and admitted) to the allegations on "4:44."
Now, Bey and Jay have come together for an album that can best be described as a celebration of their love.
“The ups and downs are worth it/ Long way to go but we're working/ We're flawed but we're still perfect for each other, yeah yeah/ Sometimes I thought we'd never see the light/ We went through hell with heaven on our side/ This beach ain't always been no paradise," Beyoncé sings, per Genius, in a track titled "LOVEHAPPY," shedding light on their current relationship status.
On the same track, JAY-Z admits, "we broke up and got back together."
In a 2017 interview with The New York Times, the rapper opened up about his infidelity, and why he and BeyoncГ© have chosen to stick it out for the long haul. "Well, that's my soulmate. It's the person I love. And you can be in love with someone, you can love someone, and if you haven't experienced love and you don't understand it, and you don't have the tools to move forward, then you're going to have complications, period," he said. "You can either address it, or you can pretend until it blows up at some point, and for us, we chose to fight for our love, for our family, to give our kids a different outcome, to break that cycle. And for black men and women, to see a different outcome."
In addition to the album, the pair also released a music video to accompany a song titled "Ape S**t," some of which BeyoncГ© teased on Instagram. The mini-film was reportedly shot in the Louvre in May - solidifying the Carter's status as king and queen of hip-hop (/everything).
As if Bey and Jay being crazy in love on the album aren't enough to make you melt, one of the family's other lyricists also makes an appearance. On a track titled "Boss," 6-year-old Blue Ivy raps alongside her parents and gives an adorable tribute to her baby twin siblings. "Shout out to Rumi and Sir, love Blue," she says.
The couple have been traveling through Europe on their "On The Run II" tour, which will hit North America later this summer, CNN reports. BRB, frantically buying myself some tickets.
